15 Tips to Keep your Day and Home Organized

I’m a bit obsessed with having everything clean and organized in the home, as well as planning out my days. Sometimes I can go over bored with this…anyone else? But there are many things I do, that I find, helps my days run smoother and lowers any unnecessary stress. I wanted to share some of my top organization tips for the home and planning day to day life. It may look like each task takes a long time, but once implemented it helps the days and weeks run much smoother. Let me know in the comments your top tips!

Tips to Keep the Home Organized

  1. Fold your bedding set up and store in the pillowcase, that way it’s easy to find each set. No more mismatched sheets!

  1. Store your baking supplies in glass jars (flour, sugar, oats, etc.) This keeps them fresh, and easy to see into. I found these gems at Costco! I love that they seal on top, however, mason jars work great too. (photo pictured above)

  1. Use small baskets and containers to store small random items. I use a container to store all my measuring spoons, little baskets in our change table for small items, a small jar for twist ties, etc.

  1. Sort all baby/kid clothing by size and items, then put the smallest in the top drawer as it will be worn first.

  1. Go through the mail as soon as you get it, recycle what you don’t need.

  1. Purge often! This will help keep the home tidy and clutter free. I often go through clothing and other household items and donate anything we do not need anymore.

Tips to Keeping Daily Life Organized

  1. To keep your day/week organized use an agenda.
              • Write out the most important things you need to do each day in a bright colour, like red. Then write any other things you would like to get done or attend, in another colour. If there is something you do every day that you want to check off, such as a workout, either write it on each day or in the notes. I make a column in my note section with the days of the week at the top, and the everyday tasks down the left side, then I check off each little box in the columns, this way I don’t need to rewrite them on every day in my agenda. See photo above to understand better.

  1. Plan out your dinners for the week.
              • I often do this on Sunday, then go to the store to get any needed groceries the next day. This also helps us keep our grocery bill down by not buying unnecessary items, as I stick to my list. I simply look at my list each morning, pick a meal, then take out any meat that is needed that night. This eliminates the evenings of me trying to quickly figure out a dinner plan.

  1. Keep the house tidy by putting displaced items away every day. If you make sure everything is picked up, your house will look way cleaner even if you haven’t gotten to your big chores yet.

  1. Do some basic cleaning throughout the day  (tidy up, dishes, wipe the counter, ) and do big cleaning all in one day, to get it over with. But if you prefer you can break up the big cleaning jobs between days as well (think vacuuming, bathrooms, mopping, etc.)

  1. Write everything down that you need to remember in your agenda/journal/notebook/phone or wherever works best for you.

  1. Create a morning and evening routine. A structured day is important for a healthy lifestyle and will help you stay organized and focused.

  1. Make to-do lists and check everything off as you go (I find it very satisfying to check off each completed task).

  1. Have a folder going all year for any important information you’ll need to keep for taxes (receipts, pay stubs, etc.)

  1. Use a budget to stay on track.
              • We write down every expense in a month in categories (grocery, gas, gifts, etc.) on our calendar. Then at the end of the month, it gets placed into our budget template on our computer. I cannot emphasize enough how important and useful this has been for our family – it has helped us cut unnecessary expenses, track where our money goes, and actually set aside money for savings.

I hope you find these tips helpful and start practicing them in your life.

These are extra soft, chewy, and use two different sizes of chocolate chips.  I’ll be keeping my recipe intros short and sweet (hehe), because I know I’m not alone, when it comes to not liking to scroll down a long wordy post before I get to the recipe, so here you go!
